This master’s thesis explores the critical role of Independent Accountability Mechanisms (IAMs) in multilateral development banks (MDBs) as sources for continuous learning. IAMs not only provide redress for communities impacted by MDB projects but also channel valuable insights into improving the design, planning, and execution of future initiatives. By promoting institutional learning, IAMs contribute to the creation of policies that protect both communities and the environment. However, the full potential of IAMs as catalysts for continuous learning remains underutilized. This research proposes key improvements, including systematic evaluations of IAM effectiveness and the implementation of transparent monitoring systems, to enhance their impact on institutional learning. Combining document analysis, literature review, and qualitative interviews, this study emphasizes the need for accountability mechanisms to evolve as dynamic learning tools in the ever-changing landscape of international development
